Testing WE 407A in Hickock 533A---20 or 40 volt filament

Greetings- I thought that I could test this tube using the Hickock provided 2C51 or 5670 settings and just change the filament setting to 20 volts (parallel setting). However, either I have a crappy tube or perhaps the filament is supposed to be set to the "series" voltage of 40 volts. Obviously I don't want to put 40 volts on the filament if the correct setting is 20. Any ideas?? Thanks very much, wpod
