Greetings- despite my asking my friend to contact me before making a tube purchase, he went ahead and ordered a quad of JJ KT88 and a quad of JJ EL34 from a non AA sponsor. All eight tubes had the undersized pins, they all measured about .086 - .087. From a random sampling of different octal tubes that I had on hand, they all measured .092-.093. Now five thousandths of an inch doesn't sound like much, but neither his Dynaco MkIVs or MkIIIs would produce any music with these JJs tubes inserted. Luckily he was able to tighten the tube sockets before any damage was done, but he could have had a real mess on his hands if he hadn't been right there to observe the plates glowing red. The other problem now, is when he went to reinstall his original tubes (SEDS), they didn't want to go into the tightened sockets. I think that I'll wait until they remedy the problem.
