I have not A/B'd the two tubes, but in a pair Dyna MKIIIs with a dual bias modification (bias adjust for each output tube plus master bias)I put in a borrowed/broken in quad of JJ KT77s about a week ago; they are quite nice. They ABSOLUTELY DESTROY any other JJ tube I have tried-- especially JJs E34L, which I found at first to be very pleasant.... at first... until I realized that they (JJ E34L) have a rather "syrupy" treble that is Euphonic in the classic sense-- I think so many folks like the JJs because they round off sharp "corners" and harsh bumps in the sonics of their system. Tesla EL34s as old as mid 1970s are the exact same; pleasant and "vintage" sounding (read: low detail and "warm", or rather "flabby!" The KT77s are a WHOLE different ballgame, at least in my limited exposure to them. They have the slightly forward, tight midrange of JJs 6L6GC with good soundstaging; not super-extended treble, but what treble is there is nice. They also have GREAT bass, some of the best in the 6CA7/EL34 family. Tremedous dynamics, too. Still not quite a detailed as any Shuguang KT88 type, but they may just unseat the "winged C/SED" Svetlana EL34 as my favorie modern type. I think JJ got it right with this one, and with ebay sellers like jspht8338 and www.eurotubes.com selling them for less than $80 for a matched quad, they are a steal. Give 'em a try! They are pretty nice.
