Having recently purchased 14 matched to each other of these same killer EL34s for my Cary V12R, I have been through this with my dealer (KCA) and Groove Tubes. For Audio, I was advised to buy 8s or 9s. The rating system rates distortion. Guitar players love the sound of good distortion so they buy the 2,3,4,or 5s. GT told me that the 10 rated tubes are too sterile, brittle sounding. I bought all 9s, and they sound great. 7s or 8s might be a little more juicy if you like that. Give GT a call, they are very nice and helpful even though they sell about 10 tubes to guitar players for every one the sell us audiophiles.
