Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

I think my power tubes are about finished.

I had some of my audiobuds over Monday night to compare modified Usher speakers to my Merlin TSMs I sent to Merlin for the "magic mod". During the course of the evening, certain tunes that usually have some light sylabince like Cowboy Junkies, really started to have some bite. Last night I decided to swap out the EH EL 34s (my original tubes for the last three years) for my set of EH 6CA7s. When I did so, I noticed that one bank of mt tubes was biased somewhat higher (40ma) than the other. I set /check bias once a month, and it has been about two weeks since I checked it. For each bank of 6 EL34s, I bias them at 240ma. The 6CA7s have about 200 hours on them, so are almost new. Is the change in sound (brighter with bite) and the higher bias reading an indication of worn out tubes? I do have a set of Groove Tube E34LS tubes arriving next week, but I did not think I needed them when I ordered them. Is three years steady use about all you should expect from power tubes?
