Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

In my SLP 98.......

I have tube rolled just about every decent 6SN7 you can name, even the EH. What I found is somewhat earth shaking to guys that like all their tubes to be the same brand. That really sucks in the 98. The best tube to use in the rear sockets is the Raytheon VT-231. Any owner of a 98 that does not do this has never tried it. For the front two sockets, I like the Sylvania tall bottle black base 6SN7W. I also like what is called the '52 Sylvania 6SN7 GT. Sometimes I like the Tung Sol round Plate VT-231. It depends on my mood and the music. The important thing to remember is the Raytheon VT-231 in the rear sockets is so neutral and dynamic, it lets the front tubes shine, and be themselves.
