Re: Raytheon VT-231 vs. Sylvania VT-231

When I tube rolled my Cary SLP 98, I discovered that the Raytheon VT 231 was dead solid perfect for the rear two sockets. You just change the front two sockets to whatever flavor you prefer. Today I have my newest pair of Raytheons (of three pairs) installed along with 1951 Sylvania 6SN7GTs. I just bought these tubes on Agon at a reasonable price, and they are a very nice combo. Sound of the 51s is midway between the Sylvania VT231 and the RCA VT231. The Raytheons in this preamp in their rear sockets only add great dynamics and take nothing away from the sound and performance of the main two front two tubes.
