In Reply to: identification of Cary V12 - original, "i" or "r"? posted by vinylphile on December 17, 2004 at 13:25:12:
My "R" is a converted "i". The only change that I could see without taking it apart is that the driver tubes are no longer 6922s, and the face plate was changed to an "R" one. The small tubes in front are EL84s and 12BZ7s on a V12R. Early conversions have stick on labels on the chassis labeling the 12BZ7 tube sockets. Early conversions were much cheaper than the later conversions. The difference is a new chassis or paint job for the expensive later conversions. I kept my bill from Cary for the conversion to prove it is a real "R".
