After about four hours, the retubed 98 sounds real good. I'll run it this way until next Friday, then change out the CBS Hytrons for another pr of something else. After all, these rear tubes are only cathode followers. A pr of decent GTAs or GTBs should be as good as it needs. Time will tell since I will try several VT-231s just to see.
