Don't You Just Love It When You Find That Magical Tube Rollin Combo?

For several months I have been trying several 6SN7w, GTA, WGTA, and GTB in my Cary SLP 98. A while back I was taken by Sylvania 6SN7Ws, but using 4 was too juicey, and the short bottle ones did not like being in the rear positions (noisy). Sylvania GTA were not bad, WGTA too slow and juicey. I remembered reading somewhere that RCAs sometimes were nice with Sylvania. A couple of days ago I installed my prize tall bottle Ws in the front input gain sockets and tried a pair of 1950s RCA Canada tall bottle bottom getter 6SN7GTBs in the rear sockets. After a decent warmup, I went ultralinear on the V12, put on some ZZ Top and cranked it some. Fast and smooth with killer bass. It was the best my all tube system had ever sounded with boggie rock and roll.
Switching gears and another set of tubes in my CD player from 60s halo getter 7316s to 1959 D getter 7316s last night, I played jazz and acoustic tunes with the amp in triode mode. Smooth sweet tunes with tone and soundstage as wide and holographic as you could want. Mainly, the system attained a balance I had not experienced before.
Ain't it great when everything comes together?
