I think it would be benificial to other SLP 98 owners if we all shared our tube combos. I doubt anyone is using the same 6SN7/VT231 for all four tubes. Lets share our combo experience as to what is a good combo, and what is not.
So far for me, four EH 6SN7s were better than the stock Chinese tubes, tighter base and more balanced sound. Using four Sylvania 6SN7Ws was really airy with a lot of venue info(ie. you could really hear the room. The rear two tubes really acted up (noise) that cleaning pins and sockets failed to cure. I guess that they are driven harder in the rear positions. Changing the rear "W"s to Sylvania GTB , then GTAs both solved the noise problem with clean good sound, but lost a lot of the venue info.
I have a nice near NOS pr of RCA gray glass VT 231s comming from Greybeard/Tubeseller that I'm going to combine with a nice pair of Canadian RCA GTBs.
