Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

I bought some nice tubes a couple of months ago, and am now getting around to testing them. I pulled out my first matched pair of Amperex PQ 7316s and prepared to install them in my Cary 308T. I noticed that the silver on the top (getter flashing?) was all lopsided. Looking into the tube, I noticed that the halo getter, on a single support rod, was not straight up, but bent over, with the halo almost touching the plates beneath it.
I figured that once installed, it would blow. Looking at the box, I noted that it had been tested to match, and the values were close to its normal matching companion 7316. Rather than calling the dealer, I installed it. After warming up, they sounded like a nice pair of 7316s, not broken in, but still nice. I guess the sideways mount of the 308T helped to take the strain off the getter support.
Would you still call the dealer and ask for a replacement?
