Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

Siemens 5814a Triple Mica burn-in changes

I've looked around old posts in the asylum and seen various bits and pieces of info about this tube but would like to ask for some concrete info, if possible. I have already been told that it is a rather 'aggressive' tube that is very neutral and detailed across the board. I've used a pair to replace the Mullard CV2007s I had in the 12au7 position of my Jolida JD100S CD player. For the 12ax7s I'm using a pair of Tesla E83CCs, as well as for the two 12ax7 positions in the Jolida JD1501S amp. These I know are a netral, detailed and airy tubes too.

To quote someone else, have I ended up putting 'too much of a good thing' into my system and is it why the sound, although better in numberous ways, is 'attacking' me (especially at higher volumes)? It's not like the highs are harsh or anything, and my room and system tweaks have gone a long way to fix this, but I think that, like with every other tweak and experiement, the 'impression' I get now is that the music isn't natural.

Often when I've upgraded cables there was a period when the sound was 'out of whack' and I would wonder whether I was imagining things or if it was just the fundamental characteristic of the cable. Of course, after a couple weeks burn-in, the life, realism and genuine enjoyment would return. I'm hoping that the same is the case with these tubes that have had 30 to 40 hours on them. I could get used to the new, 'clearer' sound, if only that 'thing' would return. Do you think that is likely, or is it simply a mismatch of tubes and gear?

Cheers!
