The best tubes I have ever heard run in triode or correct correct pentode are the EI-KT90s and the TS 6550 black plates. I'm using using the KT90s in both my Grommes 260a and the Fisher 55As. I haven't even changed the filter caps yet in either pair of amps being so busy and partially lax but Fisher 55As are interstage connected triode amps and with the KT90s they make 62watts per amp in triode. I now know why the innerstage transformers have such a following.
The Grommes are done the way pentodes should be done and that is with a higher plate voltage and a lower regulated screen voltage..
If your transformers are the PA-1650R Hammonds, you can built the amp around the KT120s because that way you will be able to use KT88s and KT90s as well. I mentioned my two favorite high power tubes above but,I also like the Gen KT88 reissue as well as the Shuguang Treasure KT88s.
