Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

You have all kinds of people here. No doubt some only want others to agree with them and perhaps have their ego stroked by appearing to be some kind of "expert". Joe Rosen comes to mind with his entertaining and comical posts. He had some knowledge, no doubt, but was very opinionated to say the least and expressed those opinions as facts which really isn't cool.

You are knowlegable, helpfull, and never try to advance your own causes or interests. You only try to help and advance ones understanding and knowledge base. Screw those who can't see where you are coming from as it's rather clear.

Audio is a very subjective thing and it's no wonder agreement can't be reached in many cases. What tube is best is always going to bring differing opinions. Jeez, just wander over to tube DIY and look at one of the latest posts on "what is a choke input filter". Now that is something that shouldn't be open to opinion but alas it is. Some say if it has a choke of any size operated in any manner as the first element after the rectifier it's choke input. I am of the frame of mind that unless the rectifier(s) conduction angle is 180 degrees and output voltage is ~ 0.9 times the transformer secondaries RMS voltage then it isn't functioning as a choke input filter.
