"If it was my 500C, I'd raise the coupling caps to .1, and drop the grid resistors to 150K"This is a popular mod. But it might get you into trouble with some speakers, as you're asking the 500C to dive a little deep into the lowest bass octaves.
While the 500C is a fine amp of moderate power, it may not have enough muscle to go that low under all conditions. This is why I don't recommend it unless you know in advance the load it will be seeing in the low to sub bass frequencies. Most folks mix and match these things in all sorts of combinations like a big audio orgy. The factory specification is much more predictable under more diverse loads. It just won't play the very deepest bass with authority.
But if one must go that low with a 30 watt receiver, one should run a sub anyway.
