How *hard* is it to hit the mark with your bias adjustment? If it's touchy already, you might not want to drop the value too much. If there is a multiturn pot in there and it's very easy to bias, you could consider cutting the value of that resistor in half.
Since you're comfortable soldering, you could also look into doing both, though this can be tougher if everything is board mounted.
