I've had my ARC Ref 2, not Mk2, for over 2 years and love it. Recently did a retubing with help from Ken Deal and it's even better than new.
While I did not compare the Mk2 to mine, in my system, I must admit that I did think it did sound more "sterile" or solid state.
Personally I would not upgrade mine to Mk2 status even if offered for free.
