I was in the business for years and had the opportunity to own and listen to two Marantz 8Bs, 1 Mcintosh 225, 2 Mcintosh mc 30s, 2 Leak TL-25+s, and several examples from Audio Research, Conrad Johnson, Bedini, Quicksilver, etc... . I had found the Leaks and Dynaco to offer a sense of "LIFE" not present in the other units. I also currently have a pilot SA-232, and a pair of Eico HF-86s. These 6BQ5 amplifiers are , in my opinion, extreme sonic bargains. However, I have replaced my Dynaco's coupling capacitors with Jensen copper paper in oils, wired for triode operation, reduced feedback, and most recently added the SDS power supply upgrade (really made a big difference in the low frequencies and dynamic headroom). the Stereo 70 is ,right now, head and shoulders better than my other units. I do not want o keep purchasing amplifiers to try and improve upon the sonics of my Dynaco. I am willing to purchase a reasonable new or vintage amp that froum members are confident will outperform the stereo 70. I use a dual passive preamp with my amps. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
