Re: Amp Question?... mod vintage amp!

Jim,

with that spec., you range is wide open. Nearly any amp from the 60s with EL34s (or any variation of the 6L6 theme)will make your day. I'd strongly recommend a Fisher SA300 or an EICO HF-87 or 89. You can also look for an integrated and run your preamp in via the Aux. input (or modify the integrated's preamp and sell your existing to finance the project :-)

The above list isn't exhaustive, and you can find many brands of vintage amps that will work. I'd recommend looking for one with a tube rectifier, but I wouldn't cull a good amp with SS rectification. My highly modified Fisher X100-B has SS rectifiers which I replaced with HEXFREDS and it sounds really fine.

Look on the Bottlehead Forum for my post to a fellow who has a Scott integrated and wanted mod info.

Cheers/Carron
