I never thought about it but I haven't seen an amp built specific for KT77s.I think I read somewhere that the vacuum in an EL34 is not as hard as other tubes like the KT77 and that could explain some of the rolled off high freq or low freq or softness in the middle region.I found that mostly on the XF2s..
I really like the mid 90s Shuggie EL34b and they look like a carbon plate or semi black plate but they sound very good. I was very surprised.
It's funny tho because if I didn't do comparative listening,I would have never known that EL34s were rolling off at both ends..It was only when I put the 6L6 or KT77 tube types in,right after hearing EL34s is when I realized it.That is why I think the vacuum hardness might explain a lot.
I also have a lot of the SED EL34s and I'm glad I have them..I have been using the DD getter Amperex the last 2 weeks.I think New Sensor may have a stock of Svetlana EL34s which look identical to the SEDs.
