I visited to my stash and see that the HF-31 is the same exact fascia as used on the HF-81.
The AF-4 & HF-12 case work are much smaller.
I do not own an HF-90 today but have had one in the past I clearly remember the fascia part is unique to the turner and too small for your needs as it matches the HF-12/AF-4 case. My memory is clear on the size match to the HF-12.
An HF-85 preamp is the same exact case size. I don't have one on hand and do not remember how the front fascia cutout lay. It would be my guess it would be easy to rework and use however finding one would be difficult.
What to do?
Having a sheet metal shop fab a few parts like Mike spoke of would not be impossible. Fairly simple the part requires four 90 degree bends and then there would be a number of holes (14) and two large slots required.
Best bet if you were to take your time HF-31's come up on Ebay sometimes cheap with Mullard tubes. I got my amp that way some years ago the quad of Mullard EL84's inside alone had much more value than the cost and shipping.
The back top perforated cover used on the HF-31 and HF-81 are the same size. I have seen new material very much like the stock on hand it would be a simple DIY job to cut to size and make one 90 deg bend.
The HF-81 is a killer amp I have several and use them all the time. If you search Mike has detailed how to rebuild them not difficult as I've been able to do so. Jim can provide all the parts and tubes you may need.
Good luck Mossback/Dan
