Hello,
I'm currently running the Electro Harmonix EL34's in my Eico HF-87 along with a DIY 12au7 tube pre somewhat similar to the Foreplay. My speakers are the vintage Polk SDA-1C's. The current combination is far to bright and forward so I'm looking for tube recommendations for a smoother rolled off top end. I have rolled quite a few 12au7's in the tube pre, rca blackplate 5963's, JJ 12au7's, HP 5963's, mullard 12au7's, and Rft 12au7's, none of which tamed the top end enough, so I'm left looking for different output tubes. I'm thinking of the EH 6ca7 fat bottles, and the Svetlana's. The JJ EL34's seem pretty forward and bright, so I feel those are out. Any thoughts and input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
