You got some insightfull comments here, but I thought I would add a few. There seems to be a new, DIY, VS vintage, mod-rebuild thing going on in the thread. I would just like to say that either could do you well. If you really want horns, then I might lean towards any of the number of directly heated triod kits out there. You could go the Foreplay preamp, Paramour (or other) route available from bottlehead. Nice stuff. Yet, I think you could go vintage and still be happy. For example Eico HF-81 integrated amps have a following. The Dynaco PAS and ST-70 would be fine, though maybe not the best match horns. There is also Eico HF-85, similiar to the PAS, but point to point wiring and an additional stage. Both the Pas and the EIco could be the basis of much modding though there is more support out there for the PAS. Other amps to consider would be the Harmon Kardon Citation Five (for that matter the Citation preamp may be an option), the integrateds from Fisher and Scott may also work. Really your decision here is somewhat related to where you want to go, continual upgrading VS buy and keep it.Hope this helps,
Rodney
