Re: Amplifier Recommendations

You mention a desire for an integrated amp.

I would look at any of the Fisher integrated amps that use either 7868 or 7591 tubes. Good for 25-30wpc. Uniformly excellent sound.

Others like the comparable Scott amps, but much like the choice between Chevy and Ford, it seems to be a mutualy exclusive choice.

If you can use less power, look for the Heath SA-2, Eico HF-81, Dynaco SCA-35, Pilot 240. All use the 6bq5 tube for ~12-15wpc.

If you only have 1 source to use (like a CD player) than you may want to look for basic amps with volume controls.

Fisher SA-16 stereo amp. Fisher 20a or 30a monoblock prs. Eico HF-14 monoblock pair. Heath UA1/2 monoblock pairs. All have level controls.

A choice outside the box so to speak would be a Fisher 500c FM receiver. This is an all in 1 tube tuner and integrated amp. Excellent sound and easy to update and run.

With patience, all of the above can be purchased and restored for $400 or less.

Best,

Ross
