"Does anyone have any insight as to why Cary seems to be going in the other direction of the traditional single ended designs?"I'm not sure I understand what you mean. If you are suggesting his emphasis or direction is on push/pull vs SET then, as I understand things from Dennis(and I am not quoting him), he is trying to get the best of both worlds in a push/pull topology. His DJH Superamp approaches the SET sound, perhaps about ~90% compared to my 2A3 SET setup(the DJH Superamp is an excellent amp for the price-IMHO). The new Rocket 88 is suppose to close that gap even more, thus giving the sound of SET with more power than typical 2A3s or 300Bs, etc. Dennis has been very excited about the new Rockett 88.
I am planning to get one in the next week or two and will be able to compare it to my 2A3 monoblocks. I no longer have my DJH Superamp but I have a fairly good memory as to how it sounds relative to my current 2A3 amps. Soooo, I'll plan to give some impressions once the Rocket 88 is burned in and I compare it to my 2A3 SET setup and the DJH(from memory), and perhaps my Marantz 8B also.As a point of information and full disclosure, Dennis is a personal friend so, while I think I am usually objective, take my opinion for whatever it may be worth.
