See if you can get your hands on a pair of the JJ frame-grid tubes. I think you be at least equally pleased with those as the 803s.

Those two are what I use in my CAT. The frame-grid in the phono, and the 803 in the line. Makes for a wonderful sounding combo.

Plz don't tell Ken Stevens of CAT though. He thinks the EI 12AX is it. Although, last time I chatted with him about tubes, he admitted to me he too really likes the sound of the JJ 803s. But the EI's is what he uses in his production units.
