Re: Nope- it's a Zener...

A Zener diode is used as a voltage regulator and can NOT be replaced with a normal diode except in VERY rare occasions which I'm confident you will not see.

A Zener works by virtue of negative resistance and will "avalanche" at a certain and consistent voltage when reverse biased. This allows it to be used to maintain a constant voltage at a given point, and is the basis of simple voltage regulators. It may also be used as a reference in more complicated regulation schemes.

You need a 10 volt 1W Zener as a replacement part. That should not be hard to come by- depending on where you are, of course.
