Check out the JJ E34l as suggested. The Tesla is indeed the best KT88; I like it as well or better than all but early 1960s GEC British KT88s. Don't dismiss Tung Sol 6550s or Mullard XF2 EL34s if you do NOS. JJ E34L offers by far the best value and very respectable sonics; its' easy drive requirements offers a very dynamic sound from any amps' front end drive circuit. JJ does less well with their KT88; I like the Svetlana OK (and I think Jim McShane has 'em for around $110 a quad, unless they sold out) but the JJ E34l is an excellent tube. $45 or so a quad from Triode Electronics.com. The Chinese KT66 is not worth the money and has performed poorly in my gear. Chris
