34-45 volts is a SS device voltage range; transistors are meant to swing higher current levels and lower voltage levels than tubes; I doubt any tube could run at 40 volts, but this really begs the question, "why would you want it to?" The depth of your committment is such that you should have no trouble whatsover either designing an all SS, quite good sounding amp, or simply using a separate power supply for the tube stages. Even running at 150 volts, I strongly feel that a 6SN7 would be forced to swing more current than it can efficiently do so in the most linear portion of its' plate curve. The best sounding tube designs that I have heard use very high plate potential (400+ VDC) and high resistance plate loaders-- the HK Citation II and early ARC gear used this modality of operating a tube like a tube ( i.e. large voltage swings at low current) to produce stunning results-- note that the tube plate does not actually "see" the full DC as the higher plate loaders cause some reduction; nevertheless this idea allows the higher voltage potential to lend a sense of ease and effortlessness to the sound.
