WMS,Fascinating stuff here. This reminds me of people that are serious wine collectors- getting a supply of something with very subtle qualities for the long haul.
Two other aspects; one, is that quite a few people are getting the tubes first and asking what to use them for later- and that's a significant commitment to design and build equipment around a tube. Two, that there is a strange and powerful affection for orphan types- tubes that are not in the mainstream but that have a special personality that the person wants to promote. That's connoiseurship!
