In general I recommend the KR2A3 to customers who have less than 96-97 dB efficient speakers. In most cases they give some oomph to the bass, which is where a typical SE2A3 amp will lose its composure first.
They sound great with the smaller Whamodyne variants and Medallions, which can both be a bit light on the bass in some rooms.
With other more efficient speakers it becomes a taste thing. On Lowthers I like them, on Galantes I liked Sino best. We supply two cathode resistors with Paraglow so the builder can optimize the circuit to a slightly higher plate current if they install the KRs.
Maybe the easy way to put it is if you only have a 2A3 amp, but want it to sound like a big KR tube amp...I meant the 50s are romantic on the bottom end, a bit soft there because they tend to be gassy. The top end is certainly marvelous. I haven't compared in a long time, but I imagine I might like it better than the 45's top end. Anyway, the things are so hard to find anymore it's a moot point to discuss unless you maybe have some on hand. I sold a mint NIB pair of RCA UX-250s with the original spec sheets for $750 last year.
I have a pair of EXO-50 nickel parafeed trannies, which are 5K primary, that I've been wanting to play with. Maybe I should dig out some more 50's from the tube room...might be killer on the Lowther front horns.
