Nice video! I get the impression from reading the various posts that preamp distortion is easily avoided but if you induce it deliberately, as you might with a guitar amp, it's not going to sound as sweet as power tube distortion. That suggests that guitar amps (or stereos?) using a tube preamp with a solid state power amp are somewhat of a gimmick, if the goal is to sound good when overdriven. (In a home stereo this would happen only on program peaks but with a guitar amp it might be normal operation.) The distortion you get at bedroom volume level won't be much sweeter with an overdriven tube preamp than with solid state. Or am I jumping to conclusions?
