Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
My newly-acquired CJ MV50 tube amplifier is sounding great but has an annoying 'snap' (arcing?) sound every few seconds in the right channel. It's not loud enough to damage a tweeter. You mainly hear it at idle. The Sovtek EL34G tubes test good, are correctly biased by CJ's method, and I have switched sides to see if the sound stayed with the tubes. Is a cap leaking DC? I see no bad solder joints.
I have worked on a lot of vintage tube amps, but have not heard this before. Any suggestions appreciated.
Pete
