Hello everyone,
I have a pair of NOS Sylvania 6sn7s that I have been using successfully for about a year. Recently, one of them makes a very loud, 2 second static burst when I turn the amp on. After that, it plays just fine. I interchanged the left and right 6SN7 in each amp and the noise burst moves to the other channel. I am confident that the tube is the cause of the problem. I also put my old 6sn7s back in and there is no such problem.
Anyway, I'm wondering if the noisy tube is still OK to use or if its problem indicates the onset of permanent failure. I would not want to damage my amp if the tube is on its way out. I just hate to scrap a tube if it's only a thermal/noise issue.
What do you think?
