Hey-Hey!!!,
If you have asked these questions, you should find a dealer who will help you and allow enough testing that you are happy spending a large sack of money with him( sorry, reasonable assumption ).Attempting to do what others have suggested without the accompanying skill level will leave you making expensive mistakes. What you are paying the dealer for is his expertise and for the privelege of borrowing equipment in order to try it out.
The PP-SE argurment is a side issue, which will be resolved by your careful auditioning. Careful and thorough builders have done equally well with both topologies, and the choice comes down to personal preference. I am firmly in the PP camp and also in the bigger power camp. Wall shaking Rock takes power, and even 103 dB sensitive speakers will require 20-30 watt amplifiers to get the jobe done well.
I suspect your best course of action is to get out and listen for a while if speding the money two or three times is an issue( hell, it is for me that's sure ). If you're anywhere the central east coast, there are folks who can help you in your quest, just ask.
regards,
Douglas
