JS,The one that mde EC "God." I've this model 1962 variant with MOV KT-66 and Mullard EL34 tubes. The KT-66 was has one of the most aggressive overdrive tones, that comes on like a swtich. The EL34 amp has a more rounded, browner clip to it.
The setup, in that Marshall, made the KT-66 sound different than the Fender Bassman circuitry that Jim Marshall copied for his JTM-45/Bluesbreaker amps. Probably, the smaller transformers has as much to do with the tone as the power tubes.
But, I'd rate the KT-66 Bluesbreaker amp as one of the finest, most distinctive tone amps ever made. The sound dominates the mid to high ranges. Clear with wild harmonics---much "cleaner" sounding than a Bluesbreaker amp loaded with EL34's---especially when whipped without mercy.
But, in the Marshall circuit---the KT-66 does not have the 5881/6L6GC tone of the Fender. Once again, transformers and voicing caps probably make a big difference.
As well as the speakers used.
