Photoflash caps are the most compact electrolytics that I know of. Allegedly they have low ESR due to the need to discharge relatively rapidly (hence high current).
All Electronics is a place from which I've procured many a PF cap at super cheap prices. I have a small stash of Rubycon 210uF 330V caps that are 1-1/16" tall and 3/4" diameter. The 350uF 330V caps are 1-13/16" tall and 1" diameter. Snap-in caps are also quite compact. I have some 330uF 400V caps that are 1-3/8" OD x 2" tall.
Right now their website lists:
Nippon Chemi-Con 04F04L. 450 V. 390 uF. 85 deg. C. 1.4" diameter X 1.85" high.
CAT# EC-3945Your Price: $3.00 each
