Looks like the James PSU Tranny was chosen for a good aesthetic
match to other James outputs. Looking at the schematic, any 720VCT transformer with a good 250mA should take care of your needs. You need two separate 6.3V windings - one for the 6C*3 damper rectifer tubes and another separate winding for the audio tubes... So buying a 12A massive 6V transformer is not an option (not unless you want a
very expensive fireworks display)... Those 6V rectifier tubes absolutely must own their own dedicated winding, as they float at HV potential...A Dynaclone ST-70 PA060 would do very nicely... As would the more
massive One ELectron BFTB1-B, as would any other Hammond with two
4A 6.3V windings and 760VCT at 250mA. About $120 or so, rather than $300. Save your money.... You can get a custom Aluminum plate
fabricated similar to Pete's amp for about $100. :)I'd go with the Dynaclone... Mounted transverse in the chassis - they look very cool!
