Tommy
Your reffering to terry dewick as the tech that told you that and terry is a dear friend of mine but he doesnt like using botique parts because he feels they are a waste of money and many times they are but I know for a fact the black gate caps you put in are definitely superior sounding to what you took out..I use polypro in oil caps for filtering in my mc60s.Terry and I always have heated discussions over componets and a lot of his reasons comes from the fact that macs dont always resposnd to upgraded componets but when you choose the correct ones they respond and do it well.
Terry's customers always want the original sound and the original look and he uses the reasoning as such if he cant meausre it,he cant hear it..Now I dont follow that thinking becuase I have done many upgrades that didnt show a so called performance change on the sweep and distortion analyzers and yet it definitely fine tuned the sound for more openess and a more solid harmonic structure to name a couple things that upgrades can do whether you can measure it or not.
