Very possible..500V rating is very much a rating

although I have seen BG's rated at 500V survive short peaks higher than 500V....(during startup of the amp before the 300B draws current).it is very possible that a BG or many other electrolytic types not survive a startup. I have read indeed that when the BG's fail they create a mean short..(suppose all lytics do?). But if they've survived so far..?? What kind of b+ do you have and what kind of rectification does the amp have?

Example Triode Dick in the Netherlands used 100V rated BG's and so did quite a few others...(as bypass cap for a 300B) typically 75V..but during startup..quite a few failed spectacularly...after that TD advised on his site to use 160V rated bypass caps.
To infinity and beyond!!!
