Re: 6B4G/ST-70 Conversion, the results

Awesome!

The Curcio driver stage is first rate stuff too. Despite concerns
about the swing of the driver, it's probably doing a first-rate job
at phase splitting and driving those output triodes. Even at "low
grid swing", there's probably very very little high order distortion.
Plus, at low grid swing, those 6B4G's are operating in deep class A
near the Pd limits thus have vanishing distortion.

I'm guessing that the sound of the Curcio versus the interstage
transformer would be harder to distinguish. The Lundahl would just
simplify the amplifier alot. The curcio ckt uses a CCS tail load
to force balance AFAIK.

Once you get settled in with that mod and get to know it's sound very
well, I could loan you a LL 1660 driver stage wired up in a small wood box. It's basically the Amity front end in prototype box. I'm
using the 12BH7 and the K&K CCS. You'd just need to run B+ and ground to it. I run the grid drive lines through shielded coax with
clip leads. It has RCA ins too.

Since I've met you several times, I'd have no problem mailing it for you to play with for a couple weeks. Wont be needing it until Feb. anyways. Again, once you get fully settled in. It would be interesting for someone to do a thorough listening to two drivers.
It might be that the interstage is just a convenient shortcut to what
can be done with tubes (i.e. Curcio).
