The filter caps are all brand new and overspec'ed to take 600v. I've watched the voltage go up to around 550, this being with the 5AR4. The 5U4 didn't go nearly as high.I tried it again in the last half-hour, and this is the best sound I've ever heard. I'll never go back to the EL34 now. I've got to make this work reliably. As for the bias supply I'll look into it, combined with raising the plate voltage so I get a little more power. Its just hard to experiment as I don't have a whole lot of parts laying around, especially high-wattage resistors.
