Try it for yourself. Pick a component you have and are familiar with the sound of. Change the silicon 1N4007's or similar for a General Semiconductor GI856 (check specs to insure voltage compatibility) and listen. Then try HEXFREDs. The difference each time was audible to me. I realize that a change to a tube rectifier is much more difficult to do, but hearing the differences in sand state devices should indicate to you that sonic differences are audible. As an additional plus, thermionic rectifiers have a slow turn on period which gives your tubes downstream a chance to warm up before being hit with full B+.
