RE: wise up ...

All good ideas, TRE.

With a D.C. amp, you must get voltages &
currents of two tubes to align to each other
without ever needing any adjustments-- anywhere
in the amp. I won't tolerate ANY adjustments in an
amplifier, and I deal with people who appreciate that..

Your good suggestions will depend on the B+ starting point,
the main power supply.

The limit of that voltage will depend on what
capacitors that are truly the best-- that you
can actually buy, and on what the chosen tubes can take,
last a long time, and sound great.

There are many, many overlapping concerns. All of them must augment
each other in a Direct-Couple if it is to really perform.

Your ideas are NEVER ignored here. I am raising my starting B+
on the KT amps, against the advice of many officianados.

It may even look like I ignore you, but I never do, and I
also pay attention to the people who are always calling me--
that happens when you're in Denver every year except for two.

People remember what they heard, and are wishing me well,
and giving advice to make things even better.

I like it! But please do realize that plate currents
and voltages impact both tubes and passive parts.

The object is to get the whole thing to be really
reliable-- I expect 60-70 years out of an amp that
is used everyday. This does limit what I can find for
capacitors. Designs here have to accommodate only
the best of them, and most of those are rated 500VDC
or less-- not ALL-- Thank God! (those Mundorf 1200VDC
Silver/Oils are great), but we're limited to what one can
actually find in stock here in the USA, so that depends
on the values needed, and if/when you can source them..

So far, I have been able to get truly outstanding
performance and longevity-- at admittedly reduced
power levels. With the best transducers and large
speaker cabinetry, that hasn't been a problem with
people that use these kinds of speakers.

More power? Sure! We all love it, don't we?
But if you want to have the best sound out there,
and don't intend to have a big Company, you can
work with low power.

With that said, I'm going bigger on the KT-88 scheme.
There is a limit to that, as we'll soon see, but it will
be a higher-power amp.

Will it sound as good as the present one-- which has only
a 500VDC main power supply? Probably not if you don't
need more power. But if you do, and it can sound really
good, it will be next. Only if.
