RE: Fools Errand.

The bit that seems missing is, if the cap gets sufficiently large, it is no longer matching the idealized schematic with just a plate on each side of the circuit. There is capacitance to other stuff. This applies to small caps too, and usually this additional capacitance is small enough to ignore...unless perhaps there is a voltage amplifier stage dealing with large C-miller and running both high output Z, and minimal idle current at the same time. If you are foolish enough to build an amp like that, just the inclination of your head whilst listening to it will cause a change to its sonics.

I think it far preferable to build amps that do not suffer such foolishness due to marginal design. Not only is the level of tolerated disturbance higher, but so is the overall performance. The 12AX7-ish stuff is just like a Yugo. It will move under its own power( usually), but that is about it. Try getting it to stop or start quickly and there will be issues.
cheers,
Douglas

Friend, I would not hurt thee for the world...but thou art standing where I am about to shoot.
