RE: SE tube amps - when and what to measure ?

"When that amp finally gets there, then it can be copied into more models WITH THE UNDERSTANDING that they aren't broken-in yet, and will change over the coming year. For the better, in these cases."

Since I have no confidence in my own ability to remember reliably how the sound a while back compares with the sound today, I tend to be naturally skeptical about whether anyone else is really able to make trustworthy "by ear" comparisons of the subtleties of the temporal evolution of an amplifier's performance. But that is just me.

One thing that does always strike me about all the claims of components "breaking in" is that it seems like a bit of a remarkable coincidence that everything is said to *improve* with the breaking-in process. Tubes, transformers, the chassis, the wire, the resistors, the capacitors,..., and so it goes on. It would have seemed a bit more plausible somehow if some of these things were said to get better with time and some of the others got worse. It seems a bit too convenient that everything always seems to get better. Again, just the natural skeptic in me speaking here!
