"All of these "by-ear" evals are meaningless."

People who are involved in audio at a "professional" level and have a lot of trade show experience will probably have a much easier time evaluating "by ears" than the average listener.

DF of Serious Stereo/MLP is an example of a "professional" who could evaluate audio performance changes "by ear" and without sophisticated measurement equipment.

Most of us "non-professionals" will be better off learning to use a PC FFT and scope to augment listening experiences.
