RE: Getting used to...

Opinions are like noses......

If someone says "it sounds better" the first thing I want to know is just what do they mean by "sounds"? The second thing I want to know is, does this person have any extended experience listening to real instruments without the aid of microphones, amplifiers and speakers?

Everytime I install a mod that technically makes the output signal more like the input signal, the system does a better job doing it's job. Namely, amplifying the input signal without otherwise changing it.

Many times I'm not happy (at first) with the "sound" but after listening as objectively as possible (and with years of experience in the recording studio becoming very familiar with the sound of real instruments)it dawns on me that the piano does sound more like a real piano and the acc guitar does sound more like a real acc guitar.

I, like everyone else, had fallen into the trap of becoming used to the "sound" of my system in it's compromised condition and had grow to like it.

The moral of the story, just because you (or anyone else) likes it, that doesn't mean it's any good.

The human ear is easily fooled. That's a proven fact!
