it's an extension of your instrument, sound, everything really

tone hounds aren't called hounds for nothing

they're super particular and to the point of being superstitious

I never got to that point, but boy howdy, I sure do know a bunch

some claim to be able to tell cloth clad pick-up circuit wire from any other type ... though I've never seen anybody prove it. I tested a few of these claims myself ... but of course it was my guitar and they could only tell if it was theirs and no, I'd better not rewire their instrument!
